The sculpture is inspired by a character from Jerzy Szaniawski’s play Two Theatres. “You always come to me when it rains… I have called you, in my thoughts, the boy from the rain.” He is a depressive, melancholic figure, embodying one aspect of human nature.

The work was created as a counterpoint to Boy from the Rain. The Girl from the Meadow represents the joyful aspect of human personality, while the Boy from the Rain embodies its depressive side. Both dispositions complement one another.
The same dynamic occurs within relationships: woman and man, as different beings, complete each other and are made for one another. In many archaic cultures, where the myth of Earth and Sky as the parents of the world existed, the Sky fertilises the Earth with divine seed.
