The motif of the three stages of a woman’s life — maiden, mother, and crone — has appeared in art for thousands of years. Its roots reach back to ancient myths, including stories of the Sumerian goddess Inanna, in which a woman’s life was compared to the cycle of the moon.

The moon, like a woman, passes through phases of waxing, fullness, and waning. Both cycles — lunar and menstrual — reflect a natural rhythm of life, inseparable from nature. In earlier times, when human life was closer to the earth and its pulses, this connection was self-evident. Today, it remains only as a trace of an original memory of unity between humans and nature.

Triple Goddess speaks of this cyclicality — of a woman who is constantly changing, yet remains herself. Of transformation, maturation, and acceptance. Of a light that never goes out, only fades for a moment, before shining again.
