The work is my interpretation of the myth of Danaë. Acrisius, her father, fearing a prophecy that he would be killed by his grandson, imprisoned Danaë in a bronze chamber. However, through the intervention of Zeus, who assumed the form of a golden rain, Danaë became the mother of the hero Perseus.

When the king learned of this, he ordered Danaë and Perseus to be sealed in a chest and cast into the sea. With Zeus’ assistance, mother and child survived.
